The Chair of Legal Culture, through the Legal Philosophy Group at the University of Girona, is one of the three pillars that make up the BIAP (Barcelona Institute of Analytic Philosophy).
BIAP was officially established in 2016, when the Universities of Barcelona, Pompeu Fabra, and Girona signed an agreement recognizing it as an inter-university research institute in analytic philosophy. However, collaboration among its constituent groups — Logos (UB), Law and Philosophy (UPF), and Philosophy of Law (UdG) — had begun much earlier and was recognized by the Ministry of Science in 2009 with the Consolider-Ingenio PERSP project.
In December 2022, BIAP was designated a María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence, receiving €2 million in funding for a project on evidence in philosophical and public contexts. Since March 2023, BIAP has been a member of SOMMa, the alliance promoting excellence in Spanish research.
BIAP also supports the Barcelona Principles for a Globally Inclusive Philosophy manifesto.
